Ambrose School Hours
8:10 AM – 2:20 PM
Arrival
8:05 AM – First bell for students to enter the school building.
8:10 AM - Students arriving after this time will be marked tardy and will need to sign-in at the front office using the front entrance.
Remember that the first day of school is a half day with dismissal at 11:20 am.
Dismissal
2:20 PM – Students dismissed.
Morning supervision begins at 8:05 am. Please do not drop your child/children off before 8:05 am as there is no supervision for students. Please see the details below for each grade level. Also look for information from your child’s classroom teacher.
Once the morning bell rings, for the safety of all students and to help students gain independence with morning routines, all parents are kindly asked to please leave. school grounds.
If your child requires support with arrival procedures, please contact your child’s teacher, our school psychologist or the principal prior to the start of school.
All school doors will be open at 8:05am.
All playground areas are closed before school, during arrival and dismissal times.
Students will enter and exit the building through the same doors.

Routine Daily Drop-Off and Pick-Up Traffic Procedures
Please share this information with any caretakers who will be bringing or picking up your child from school.
Parking is permitted
On the west side of Taft Drive.

Morning Drop Off
Morning Drop-off is a live drop off. order to participate in live drop off your child should be able to open the car door on their own, release their seat belt and exit the vehicle. Parents and caregivers please do not exit your vehicle for any length of time, as you drop-off your child(ren). Please pull all the way forward in the pull-in area when dropping students off. This will allow additional cars to pull in behind you. If your child requires help please park your car in one of the designated areas and walk your child to their arrival door.
Afternoon Pick-Up: Parking is permitted
High Street pull-in area. There is no live parking restriction during afternoon pick-up. Please do not double-park in the permitted pull-in area.

Parking Restrictions
U-turns on High Street are not allowed.
Double-parking on High Street is not allowed.
The parking lot behind the school is restricted to Ambrose staff.
The visitor parking lot adjacent to the Sanborn House is closed during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up to keep students entering and exiting the building safe from vehicle traffic.
Crosswalks, bus stops, and fire hydrants are always off limits.
Please do not drop off your child in the faculty parking lot.
Additional Arrival Information:
Students who arrive AFTER 8:15 am, will enter through the front door.
To ensure the students’ safety parents will not be allowed inside during arrival and dismissal times.
After arrivals and dismissals, all doors are locked.
Your child’s after school arrangements should be arranged before school. If last minute changes arise, please call the office before 12 noon.
Kindergarten
Students in grade K will meet in the cafeteria on the first day. They will be greeted by our kindergarten education support staff and their teachers and will be dismissed from this door.
Grades 1 and 2
Students in grades one and two will use the school’s main entrance in the morning. On the first day of school, please look for signs with your child’s teacher's name. After the first few days of school, students should arrive at school at 8:05 am and proceed to their classroom. Students in grades one and two will exit from the main entrance.
Grade 3, 4 and 5
Students in grades three, four and five will meet their teacher on the hard top near the playground for the first few days of school.
Please look for signs for your child’s teacher. Students in grades three, four and five will enter this door each morning. At the end of the school day students in grades 3 and 4 will exit from the playground doors. Grade 5 students will exit from the Sandborn door.
Absences and Dismissals
If your child will be absent from school please notify the school office at 781-721-7012 and leave a message as soon as possible.
It is very helpful if you include your student's teacher in the email so they are aware of the student's absence as well.
If your child has a change of plans for dismissal. Please do not email your child’s teacher. Please email bkirkpatrick@winchesterps.org. Teachers often are unable to check their email during the day and for safety reasons it is best to inform the office.
Please be mindful of crosswalk, sidewalk, parking lot, and roadway safety
Walkers– Please enter through the front or playground entrance.
Pets: If at all possible, please leave your dogs at home when walking your children to school. Many students are frightened by dogs and they are scared to walk to school with dogs on Ambrose grounds. Thank you for your cooperation and consideration.
Bikers – Please use the bike racks located along the playground entrance and enter through the playground entrance.
Bussed Students – ONLY school buses, approved vans, or those requiring handicap access may use the school’s driveway for loading and unloading students. Students enter through the school’s front entrance.
All bus students are dropped off at the front door of the school in the morning. Students should walk to their grade level entrance. There will be supervision for bus students the first few days as we learn routines.
Parent Vehicles – ONLY use the designated Highland and Westland Street drop-off/pick-up areas between 8:00 am-8:10 am. Students then proceed along the High Street sidewalk to access the playground entrance.
Pull into the High street drop off lane and drive all the way to the top
stopping at the start or middle of this lane causes unnecessary traffic and is unsafe for our students
Do NOT exit your vehicle
if your child requires assistance exiting the vehicle, you MUST turn right onto Westland Avenue, where you can safely park and exit your vehicle
Students should ONLY enter or exit a car’s right passenger side, never on the street side
Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks
Follow any Crossing Guard instructions
Do NOT enter the school’s driveway unless your student needs assistance or you are a visitor
Drive slowly at all times to maintain the safety of our community
Follow the traffic circulation pattern of the designated drop-off/pick-up areas
Do NOT make U-Turns on High Street or change direction using private driveways
Do NOT park within 15 feet of crosswalks and intersections. Crosswalks, bus stops, fire hydrants, and the fire lane are always off-limits.
